Student Awards
Graduate students within the Department of Oceanography benefit from a strong research program
promoting hands-on student research. Students are given every chance to promote and publish their
research. Each year the department provides financial assistance so a student can participate in a
professional activity in his/her field of study and honors its outstanding graduate students.
The Graduate Student Travel Award pays the airfare for a student to attend a professional meeting in the continental United States. The award is given based on the quality of the presentation abstract the student has submitted to the meeting's organizers.
The Outstanding Graduate Student Award in Oceanography honors an outstanding Ph.D. graduate student in each curricular group based on evidence of accomplishments in research. Nominated by his/her professor, the student's published record and other tangible evidence of outstanding research are considered when choosing the winners of this award.
