Research

My research concerns the methods for separation of radium isotopes on MnO2-coated chromatographic materials (product of Eichrom Techn, Inc.) from water samples. Using this method, radium isotopes are preconcentrated on the resin and then measured by different techniques (e.g., alpha-spec, gamma-spec). Our efforts are concentrated on the optimization of an automated system for measuring alpha-emitting radium isotopes via a radon-in-air analyzer (RAD7, Durridge Com. Inc). Because of the very high capacity of the resin (Kd=2.4x104) and the simplicity of the developed measuring technique, this method may receive a big application in monitoring of radium in natural waters.
