Research
I am a Ph.D. candidate in Chemical Oceanography with Jeff Chanton (and Bill Burnett). My research uses natural geochemical tracers to model submarine groundwater discharge (SGD) into Sarasota Bay. SGD is groundwater that discharges directly to the oceans below the ocean's surface, and may be an important contributor of nutrients to coastal systems. For my M.S., I studied the effects of different diets on copepod survival and egg production. I've also working in the Watershed Monitoring section at the Florida Department of Environmental Protection. Oceanography was a mid-life career change for me: I also have an M.B.A. in Finance from the University of Minnesota, and worked in commercial banking for 13 years.
