"Submarine Groundwater Discharge (SGD) to the coastal zone: its measurement and important socio-biogeochemical implications"

The title of my research topic basically summarizes the main thrust of my research interest. One of the main research challenges which has hitherto persisted in the area of SGD study, is to improve the techniques used for measuring SGD. Consequently, my current research focus hinges around SGD measurements, with a view to improving, as well as finding reliable and innovative SGD measuring techniques which can achieve wide application in this area. In line with the research challenge outlined above, the main objectives for my research are: (i) to evaluate in a view to improving in a practical sense, SGD measurement capability; (ii) assessment of the relative significance of SGD on nutrient input to the nearshore coastal environment; (iii) assess on comparative terms, the reliability of using seepage meters and geochemical tracers in SGD measurements.
